  • A Few Good Plug-ins - May 31st, 2005
  • I’ve added a few new plug-ins to the WP install here today, including two to help to improve the security of the site.
The first allows me to change the length of time that cookies are valid for. It seems that the cookie that lets a browser think that I’m logged into WP defaults to [...]

  • Various Technical Thingies - May 28th, 2005
  • After learning of a security issue in WordPress 1.5.1.1, I upgraded to 1.5.1.2. Of course, even though the problem apparently only presents itself when using the default theme, I thought it better safe than sorry. Interestingly, all the backend version indicators still read 1.5.1.1.
I added a backend stats plugin to the site. Unlike the old [...]

  • SYMBOL - May 27th, 2005

This week’s Photo Friday theme is “Symbol.” Taken at the Gettysburg battlefield park, this statue in silouhette is a symbol of the freedoms we enjoy in the United States.

  • Image Bar - May 26th, 2005
  • Well, until such time as I find a real replacement for MTRecentImages, or can bribe Rob to write one for me, random images will have to do. I’ve added Priss’ Multiple Random Images plugin to the site to generate a half dozen random images from all of those uploaded to the site. It’s not perfect, [...]

  • BOOKS:Pages - May 26th, 2005
  • /random/Pages.jpg
Today’s Thursday Challenge theme is “Books.”
This image was made on our most recent trip to Williamsburg, VA. They have two restored, hand-operated, presses there, and they use the presses to print a large number of publications and reproduction publications. The time-honored methods are still used, too. Type is set by hand, not by computer, and [...]

  • WordPress 1.5.1.1 Upgrade - May 25th, 2005
  • I’ve completed the upgrade to version 1.5.1.1 of WordPress. Supposedly, this version fixes all the bugs in 1.5, as well as the bugs that were introduced by the version originally intended to fix the bugs in version 1.5.
    Ouch.
There appear to be a couple of things that require minor tweaking, but otherwise, the upgrade went smoothly.
    Post [...]

  • Jennifer — The Accidental Portrait - May 25th, 2005
  • /random/Jennifer.jpg
This an old picture that I shot while working on some promotional material for a singer/songwriter back in the early ’90s. I call it an accidental portrait because of the way the image, as presented here, came about…

The lighter areas in the image, where the picture fades to white, are the result of fogged film! [...]

  • Nature’s Grafitti - May 24th, 2005
  • /random/PICT0285.jpg
This bright red “flower” is a type of honeysuckle. I think it looks like nature’s idea of grafitti

There’s a ulterior motive for this shot — to test a new WP plugin called PhotoPress for uploading images. It seems a lot easier and a lot cleaner.
    [UPDATE 8 September, 2005]
This image has been moved to a [...]

  • Have you ever found yourself in a photographic rut, where you just can’t seem to shake the creative doldrums and accomplish anything interesting?
