What’s up in the Garden?
It’s been a couple of days since I wrote about the twigs in the back yard, mostly because it’s been a little more hectic than usual. So, by way of update …
Tuesday, I didn’t get a lot done, but did manage to stick the three arborvitae in the ground, alongside the basement stairwell. In looking at the result, there should probably be four of them. They’re spaced out about six feet apart, and they really should be about four feet. Maybe I’ll put two more in at three feet apart…
Tuesday night got real cold, and we had a touch of frost. The impatiens and begonias and coleus didn’t take it very well. I hit them with some water in the afternoon, and they perked up a bit, but things still didn’t look all that great yesterday afternoon. However, I stepped out on the deck this morning, and the coleus were looking a bit better, so I plucked all the frost-bitten leaves off and discovered that there are a few new baby leaves that look pretty good.
Back to last night. I put in a couple of the Corkscrew Willow twigs, and then Donna and I trundled back to the local big orange box home improvement emporium to get some stones and clay pots to break up for drainage in some containers, and Donna made up four little planters. Everything in the planters survived over night, even though it got unexpectedly cold again.
A few minutes ago, we looked out on the deck, and found that the imatiens are looking much better, so, it appears that even the delicate plants are going to be okay.
I had planned to put in a couple of bushes this evening, however, I’ll be spending time getting the computer running again instead. Not exactly what I had planned, or hoped for, but, a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do, and I’ve got some deadlines to meet tomorrow.

This is one of the coldest springs i remember in this area. I’m glad all your “little ones” have survived okay!!
Thanks, Lynn. They’re looking better every day!
