Great Extrications
Back in June, I mentioned that I was stepping down as keyboard player for LaRocca, after which I let myself be talked into re-joining the band.
After the last two gigs (yes, there have been gigs, and I’ve not talked about them. There are reasons), I came to the realization that the band just wasn’t the right place for me. There are quite a few issues involved, but, out of deference to those still in the group, I won’t go into them. Suffice it to say that the direction and flavor of the band has changed, and it’s not sitting well with me. It’s not what I bought in to.
I will tell you a couple of things, though…
What I bought into was the opportunity to play with my old friends Rick, Margaret and Marty. And, I liked the direction and balance in the band. However, when Marty left the group, the balance went away, and the direction changed subtly. What was once a band of folks who enjoyed playing together — playing love songs and songs with a positive message, has become one step shy of a praise and worship band.
And, it ceased to be fun. Quite frankly, that’s enough to kill it for me right there. Coupled with the directional and balance shift, subtle though it may be, and the continual musical faux pas, and I was in a musically miserable state.
Don’t worry, though. I’ve got a couple of other irons in the fire that I’m not at liberty to disclose just yet. But, keep your eyes (and ears) peeled. There’s more to come!

However, this time, we had much different requirements in a keyboard — 88 piano-weighted keys, excellent piano sound and easy use were paramount. [...]
