from Last Days to Great Expectations

Well, yesterday was my last workday at the now ex-job. My VP took the dept out for lunch; that was nice. But he doesn’t like to be gone long so the minute the fortune cookies were read we high-tailed it out the door and back to the office. All in all, the last two days were very stilted — gone was the casual, comfortable ease with which we used to work together. Of course, I’ve felt that that’s been gone for some time, since I stopped working 45-50 hours a week. The fact that he’d given us a generous wedding gift was a pleasant surprise, but I think our prior working relationship died long ago. So it was just a strange day.

On a brighter note, my first day at the new job today was just fine! My new boss is very laid back. That doesn’t mean there’s no work or responsibility — au contraire, there will be plenty of both (yay!) It just means he’s an exceptionally personable guy for whom I will enjoy working.
