Update to Image Galleries …

We have been less than satisfied with the current image gallery setup here at Blather de la Semaine, and we’ve been talking about the fact that I ought to do something about it.

I initially selected the Lazy Gallery plug-in because, well, I’m kinda lazy some times. It was simple to install and simple to use. It fit within our templates with relatively little modification. However, it’s pretty weak, as gallery software goes. Visitors can’t comment on the images, and it’s difficult to link images from a gallery into a blog entry.

I’ve long had my eye on Gallery as an image management solution, but, until recently, it’ hasn’t played so well with other pieces of the content management puzzle. It appears that Gallery2, along with some help from the WPG2 plug-in, are soon going to change that a bit (I have a couple of suggestions for the WPG2 plug-in that will make it even better).

Both are in their “RC2″ stage, and all indications are that they will be releasing stable, final versions very soon. Once the release versions are “on the street,” I’ll be converting the galleries here over to Gallery2. I’ll let you all know when it’s “real.”
