Picasa — Pretty Darned Impressive

I’ve been using Google’s Picasa image management software for a few weeks now, and I find more and more to like about it all the time.

Tonight, for fun, I decided to try playing a bit with the built-in image editing functions on a portrait I shot of Donna. I made the image at Brookside Gardens this morning, while Rob was shooting some semi-formal portraits of us.

Anyway, I took the raw image and made a copy, then applied the “I feel lucky” image correction option, followed by the “warmify,” “soft focus” and “glow” effects. Finally, I cropped and printed. The result, seen below, is a gorgeous portrait of Donna.

More images from the day will be forthcoming, as soon as we get them from Rob, but I couldn’t resist posting this preview!

I highly recommend you download and use the Picasa software. While it’s not as good as Photoshop for serious image editing, for day-to-day use, it’s most excellent.

Nice, but she looks kinda concerned.

[...] I’ve been extolling the virtues of Google’s Picasa software for some time now. Here’s another good and interesting feature. I’ve mentioned that Picasa includes a not-half-bad image editor, with some pretty nice features. What I hadn’t realized until recently is that changes made in Picasa are non-destructive, leaving the original file untouched for use in “serious” software, like Photoshop. [...]
