The PC is once again humming along. A new, not-Seagate 160GB hard disk has been installed, and the drive letters all straightened out. OpenOffice.org is still pooched, for some reason, which is annoying. But otherwise, things seem to be going smoothly. A reinstall of OpenOffice will probably cure its ills.
I also took the opportunity to [...]

I hate flowers. I paint them because they’re cheaper than models and they don’t move. - Georgia O’Keeffe
What an interesting comment on compromise. I think a lot of us do things we dislike, simply because they’re easier or cheaper or make us more money.
Post Revisions:There are no [...]
… And I’ll say it again.
SEAGATE DRIVES SUCK!
Once again, I’ve been bitten by someone’s suggestion that I should be buying Seagate drives instead of Maxtor. Once again, I find myself in a situation where it is quite likely that gigabytes of important data have swirled down the data toilet.
Of course, it was not backed up. [...]
Thursday at The Mall
Uploaded by gerenm.
It’s Thursday, and Donna and I usually head out to The Mall for dinner and people watching. I carried along the Lumix, looking mostly for pink things, since this week’s Thursday Challenge is Pink. Here’s what I found.

One very cool camera…
This is a 10+ megapixel advanced compact digital camera, with a twist. Literally.
The 2″ LCD display stores in the top of the “prism”, and can be turned, twisted and tilted to be viewed from just about any position. As shown, it’s very much like [...]
Red Tulips #1
Uploaded by gerenm.
I took this with the Lumix a little while ago, and did a little tweaking to it in Picasa. I got the tulips for Donna for Valentine’s Day, and they’ve been sitting on the kitchen table, backlit, since. I exposed for the flowers, then blew the [...]
LUMIX DMC-LZ2

I was a bad boy yesterday. I went into the local CompUSA for a package of DVD+R media, and came away with a new digital camera.
I’ve been wanting a fairly decent point-n-shoot digital for a while now. It’s nice to be able to “carry,” while not having [...]
After yesterday’s “snow event,” and my subsequent de-burial, I hurt. Yes, my back is speaking very, very harshly to me today. Fortunately, I won’t be going to Mr. Z’s today, because the heating and air-conditioning people are there today installing the new heat pump. We plan to start some serious work either late this week, [...]
We had a little snow over night — if you count 22 inches a little.
I got up this morning, and dug us out, with some help from Donna. By the time we’d done that, and finished eating lunch, the world that is Columbia had pretty much returned to normal. Streets are cleared, stores open, and [...]
The Great Scale Model Train Show —
For almost 25 years has provided a marketplace for everyone who enjoys building, operating, or simply watching scale model railroads. It’s the largest show in the country dedicated to “scale” model trains, — model trains that are intended to be reasonably accurate scale models. The merchandise [...]
