Tonight’s Garbage Night …

This is garbage night in our neighborhood. And, along with the various and sundry things that normal people throw away (cleanings from the cats’ litter boxes, chicken bones, microwave dinner trays, empty containers that Howard County doesn’t recycle, etc.), I’m very tempted to add a couple of PCs.

One is a fairly recent HP P4 2.8GHz machine. Lately, every time I turn around, it does something stupid. It locks up. It shuts down. It takes a break. It annoys the hell out of me.

This morning, only Donna’s Dell desktop would talk to the LAN correctly (which made the LAN real small!). The Compaq laptop wouldn’t connect wirelessly. Basically, computer hell broke loose as we were getting ready to walk out the door to go to the Ren Fest. My solution at the time was to just shut it all down and walk away. “F— this!” I thought.

Now that we’re home, the laptop seems okay. But the HP is still throwing fits. Add to that, Donna’s A-Open PIII locks on a regular basis (it’s been locked up for two days now!). You know what? I hate PCs. I’m going to the Mac store!

The A-Open, I can see having problems. It’s a P3 running Windows 98se. It’s old, and it’s over-worked. But the HP shouldn’t be problematic. [...]
