Maine Vacation Day 5 — The Epilogue

This morning we got up at oh-dark-thirty (actually, it was oh-dark-fifteen, but who’s counting?) and left the Tradewinds in Rockland in the dark and rain to return home. The trip by car back to Logan airport in Boston was largely uneventful, which is a good thing when you’re in a rented car.

We chose to avoid the Boston tunnels and hopped off of I-95 north of Boston, in Danvers and worked our way over to 1A, which runs down the coast. Massachusetts is, to say the least, lax about marking roadways and intersections once you’ve gotten off the major arteries. This is in sharp contrast to Maine, where even the barber shops have a highway sign!

We arrived at the airport with, again, an hour-and-a-half to spare. Fifteen minutes earlier, and we probably could have switched to the earlier flight. Now, we’re sitting in the terminal, watching CNN Headline, and in the last 10 minutes, we’ve seen enough bad news to be ready to go back on vacation.

By the way, I’m also ready to sell the Mouse again. Don’t get me wrong, it’s been, basically, a perfect car. It gets great gas mileage and requires very little care. But we had this great little Mazda 3 for the past few days, and I really want one of those.

On another positive note, so to speak, the folks at Logan have an in-place plan for dealing with guitars. No questions or anything. They carefully place musical instruments and other delicate or specialty items on an elevator, instead of the belt system with the rest of the general luggage. Apparently, they get a lot of this sort of thing here.

WIFI at the Logan airport is $7.95 per day, and, unless the Wendy’s has a better hourly deal, this won’t get posted ’till we get back to the house and I power up the network again.
