WARM! and a bird update…
WARM!
The new heat pump went in a couple of weeks ago. The new windows were installed yesterday. I am about to do something that I’m not sure I’ve ever done before: turn DOWN the thermostat. It’s too warm in here! YAY! I hope this is a sign of things to come throughout the winter.
and a bird update…
After watching the wren more closely, I’ve determined by the white stripes on his face that he’s a Carolina Wren, not a house wren as previously thought. The two are very different but now that I’ve got a bird book (thanks again, Geren!) it’s easier to know what to look for as I’m watching the little guys twittering around the feeder. Plus, I got a really good look at him today. He spent a great deal of time trying to perch on the springs underneath our bicycle seats. It’s a cramped, dark space under a bike seat, so I’m guessing he’s looking for a new home. I’ve asked the hub for a birdhouse for Christmas. (Despite the name, Carolina Wrens are residents up here even through the wintertime.)
Oh, and I think the birds with the red throats that I described in the same entry linked above are house finches:
