Refreshing Honesty
I called a company today to get some quotes on a case for my mixer and a couple of racks for amps and effects. I had seen their products on eBay, and subsequently found their non-eBay web site.
Upon describing what I was looking for, the woman at the other end of the line asked, “Why do you want to buy this product?”
I was a little surprised by this response. I could just about muster “excuse me?”
She went on to explain that the line that I was looking at was really not designed for protracted road use, but rather, it was better suited to installation and studio use — the hardware was just not made for moving the gear on a regular basis. She cheerfully directed me to a sister web site with cases and racks designed for my intended use.
I’m impressed, frankly, that she would bother to point me in a better direction, especially since the product she directed to me wouldn’t save me much, if anything, over a similar product obtained locally — something I’m sure she knows.
