I generally don’t make New Year’s resolutions, cause I never manage to get to them. And, there’s all sorts of things I should resolve to do. You know, all those clichés:
- exercise
- lose weight
- eat right
- get the basement cleaned out
I’ve got news — probably ain’t gonna happen.
What I do need to do — and can do — is to get out and make more photographs. So, that’s it. No long lists. Just one thing.
Of course, with more shooting comes some responsibility. The purpose is the 1) improve my skills and (2) increase my catalog. Simply shooting more doesn’t cut it there. In order to accomplish this “resolution” successfully, I’ve got to take the time to realistically self-evaluate my work, and to take better notice of the things I’m doing wrong — the mistakes I’m making — and learn what’s required to improve in the areas I’m lacking.
So, there’s my resolution — make more photographs — not simply take more pictures.

[…] It’s also, of course, a day for resolutions. I resolve that I will not smoke a single cigarette. I resolve that I will make more photographs*. I resolve that I will learn (more) Spanish. Nothing grandiose, the little things can make a difference. […]
