Helluva Week
It’s been a helluva week. I really don’t remember being this stressed in a while. I don’t even remember some days!
I do know that our little government PEG channel, Howard County GTV, went on the air on Verizon FiOS in both Howard and Anne Arundel Counties today at 12:44PM. Our set up is not quite complete — we can’t broadcast any of our live council or other live coverage yet. But, everything that plays from our main production facility and master control center is up and running. We’re even in stereo! Whee!
And, the CMPG Strobist seminar is tomorrow. I can’t help but have the feeling that something’s going to be complete ucked fup. But, there’s nothing I can do about it now — just stress over it. And learn from whatever disasters occur so we don’t repeat ‘em next time.
Then, of course, there’s the Shadow Incident. Shadow’s got somewhat of a reprieve. There wasn’t time to cart him off to the shelter today — I ended up working most of the day. And, the shelter’s closed all this weekend and Monday, too, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Day. I’m working on Tuesday, so, the first time I can deal with it is Wednesday. Of course, I’m a little less pissed off now than I was yesterday, and Shadow’s gone back to slinking under the bed. Maybe he figured that, no, there’s no way in hell he’s going to be the Alpha Male cat. That’s a title reserved for … me! At any rate, we’re going to see how he does for the next few days. If his act is back in line, then he’ll be back on probation.
There are still six Tiger Barbs in the tank, though one looks a little pale. Of course, I also discovered that the tank temperature was a touch on the low side, so, I’ve inched it up a couple of degrees. He’s got plenty of spunk, so, something else to keep an eye on. The weight problem on the dresser seems to be unchanging at this point — in other words, no worse than it was before — so I’m not even worrying about that any more. I just have to push down a little on the middle of the drawer as I close it.
We were going to head back up to the Aquarium Center to pick up a couple of Cory Cats and a few more Tiger Barbs this afternoon, but, since I had to work late, and Donna’s not feeling great, we decided to bag it. Maybe Sunday or Monday.
I’m a little bummed, ’cause the weather’s supposed to suck through the long weekend (us guv’mint and union workers get the day off), and we had wanted to try to get out and do some photography. Depending on how it looks, we may venture out anyway. We all remember what happened the last time I went out without my camera!

Dude - I can relate.
There’ve been three major fires at work, one being a serious crash-course in bailing out an implementation going bad for a prominent client.
The end result of which may well be that someone finally gets the chop for having… how shall we way… less than a sense of urgency about order fulfillment for marquee customers. Which, unfortunately, relies at least in part on my accounting for all the places where things fell apart and had to be fixed by engineering personnel who were only supposed to be engaged in an advisory role. Bad server builds, incomplete cabling, lack of any documentation, compounding delays, and flagrant and gratuitous brandishing of the Deflectotron Blamealator…
So now I get to ride the thin line between giving evidence of negligence and making sure that I’ve got my bases covered so as not to get sucked into the Spinning Vortex of Fingerpointing. Fortunately, I can support my entire case by (and have only made accusations from) my obsessive archive of email and dated procedural documentation. With names, and dates, and citations, and case numbers…
I am so not looking forward to Saturday anymore.
