New Arrivals
We brought a few new fish home from the store this evening — another half-dozen Tiger Barbs, and three Cory Cats. You save a few cents if you buy the Tiger Barbs by the half-dozen. Anyway, as usual, I floated the bags in the tank to get the temperatures stabilized.
Tiger Barbs are shoal, or schooling, fish. After the bag was in the tank for only a few seconds, the first six Tiger Barbs were trying to school up with the new arrivals — right through the bag! Predictably, the Cory Cats went to the absolute lowest corner of the bag and parked there, all stacked up on top of one another, seemingly eager to get to the bottom of the tank to begin working. Yeah, even fishies have personalities!
Left: 10 of the dozen Tiger Barbs. They’re all instant buddies, cavorting through the flora plasticas. The new arrivals are wondering why the plants taste funny. Right: Corydoras Matea already hard at work. I had wanted either Spotted or Leopard Corydoras, but they seem to have sold out very quickly. Another old favorite of mine are Skunk Corydoras, but they’re frighteningly expensive. The Mateas look a lot like the Skunks, but for a lot less money.

Way cool fish.
Won’t anything called a “barb” be hostile to other fish, ie. the cories?
I had a Leopard Cory. It was a great fish.
So long has you have a proper sized shoal or school, they’ll generally only bother themselves.
