Brown Headed Cowbird

Here are a couple of better pictures of our new friend, the Cowbird. We had a whole flock of them at breakfast time. Now that the sun’s out, and it’s marginally warmer, most of them have headed off to find something a little more “normal” for them to eat. However, there are a couple still hanging around the feeder at lunch time today.

By early afternoon, the sun moves around to the side of the house, and I can get some better pictures. However, on a sunny day like today, the mid-day light is pretty harsh.

Lunchtime activity was pretty light today, though the birds have been pretty busy. The feeders that were pretty much filled this morning are now nearly empty — we’ve gone through at least three pounds of seed today in the tube feeders alone! And, the ground feeders have emptied the two tray feeders.

Of course, clicking a picture here makes a bigger version appear, or you can see all the bird pictures at my flickr site.

Sounds like you’ll be needing a bird-seed-by-the-truck-load delivery service soon. :-D

I’m jealous. :-(

that’s awesome! I think the photos are great. BTW, it’s really good news for your yard that the cowbirds are coming around sampling your feeder….because they’ll put your yard on their “list of places to get food” and since they prefer insects and larvae your good deed of seed in the harsh cold will be paid back flock fold by them eating harmful bugs out of your grass later in the year. Birds must all be Hindu….they’re very big on Karma.
