Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Finally Released

After several months of the open beta test project, Adobe have finally offered Lightroom for sale!

For a limited time, the software is available for 1/3 off! (only through the Adobe web site).

New Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroomâ„¢ software is the professional photographer’s essential toolbox, providing one easy application for managing, adjusting, and presenting large volumes of digital photographs so you can spend less time in front of the computer and more time behind the lens.

As a current Photoshop CS2 user, much of the functionality of Lightroom is already available to me. However, Lightroom offers a lot of time-saving features not available in the full-fledged version of Photoshop, such as relatively easy image organization, and the ability to automatically print “proofs” for wedding and portrait jobs that contain file reference data right on the print. This makes what was one of the most time-consuming wedding photography tasks — sorting through proof prints and labeling them with “roll” and “print” numbers easy and quick. The client then need only reference the actual file name when ordering reprints or choosing images for their album!

Additionally, the most common editing tasks can be performed in Lightroom, leaving only the most advanced work to be done in Photoshop.

I’ve been using the Beta version almost since it became available, and really like the quality of the images it produces. For the price, I think it’s a “must have” piece of software for any serious professional photographer.
