…But, I finally figured it out.
See, I have this problem, of sorts — once I see a face, I never forget it.
You all seen the new e-Harmony commercials. You know, the “bad first date” series. Specifically, the one with Apollonia Kotero as one of the goofy girls. Yeah, that’s Apollonia, Prince’s hottie in Purple [...]
Okay, well, we’re back. Sorry ’bout that. I installed a plug-in that was supposed to help make the site a little more search engine friendly. Instead, it seems to have made everything go blank. Hopefully, it didn’t screw with anything else. If so, I’m going to be really hoppin’ down somebody’s throat about it.

ThinkFree, one of a number of companies to offer low-cost alternatives to the MSOffice, have released a new plugin for WordPress that allows viewing of Office documents on a WP site, such as this one.
As an example, here’s a Powerpoint that Donna did for the camera club some time back: Composition 102 (this is [...]
My friend, Steven, sent me this What the Duck strip the other day.
At first, I wondered to myself, ”What’re you saying, Steve?”
Of course, this has come shortly after my commentaries on wanting to ”upgrade” from my current Nikon D70s camera to a Canon 30D — in the name of better image quality. I’ve done a whole buttload of [...]
Today, on the way home from GTV, I saw something that made my jaw drop. Soccer mom pulled out of the elementary school parking lot, presumably having just picked up ankle-biter-brat from school. She then drove about 300 yards and pulled into a driveway, whereupon the whole crew spilled out of the soccer-mom-mobile. And this [...]
The next shipment of Shay pickup wipers is expected to arrive at The On30Guy Store early next week, and pre-orders are now being accepted at http://on30guy.on30xchange.net .
For those not familiar with the product, they replace the electrical pickup system on the Bachmann On30 shay with a complete set of phosphor-bronze wipers. Operation is greatly improved [...]
For those who haven’t been following along, I’ve been wanting to make some changes to the On30XChange site for some time now. Well, they’re finally pretty much done, and I’ll be switching to the new format sometime tomorrow.
The whole concept of the site has changed, moving from a forum site to more of an e-zine [...]
With no announcement of a mid-line replacement camera for the Canon 30D, the prices have started going — back UP! Bah!

PMA07 is now over, and I must admit to being a little disappointed in some of the new releases, as far as D-SLR cameras are concerned.
Canon introduced nothing in the middle- or low-end, instead offering up only a new top-of-the-line camera. With the 30D being on the streets for just about a year [...]
Bird Flu Outbreak at the Trailer Park
I found this image while poking around the web this morning, and couldn’t resist posting it here. The original photog’s name was not listed, so I can’t properly attribute it.

You were probably wondering what’s been happening in the the little aquarian world here at the Mortensen Mansion. We’ve been taking our time, making sure everything’s pretty stable, before making any major additions.
We decided a few days ago that everything was probably in good enough order to add a couple of newbies to the tank. [...]
As you know, I’ve been doing a bunch of detailed research on D-SLRs for the past couple of weeks. One thing I’ve started to run across is a spec for shutter lag — the time between pressing the shutter button, and the time the shutter actually fires. With point-and-shoot digitals, this time is often excrutiatingly [...]
I doubt it very seriously.
Last night, one of the girls (Jordin Sparks) gave an awesome performance of Pat Benatar’s Heartbreaker, and some are saying she lip-synced. The reason? Her vocal continued past the point in time when she pulled the hand-held mic away from her mouth at the end of the song.
Yet, her mouth was still [...]
Some friends have been trying to convince me that my decision to switch back to Canon may not be the best one I could make. Of course, they are acting in my best interest — trying to save me from spending more money than I have to. And, I appreciate that.
One has suggested that I examine [...]
nothing amusing to write today, just thinking out loud…
we haven’t been to church in several weeks. frustration with the ’system’ and current events finally overwhelmed my former party line to “stay in and hope for change from the inside.”  There are some groups who are trying to effect change from the inside out, but it seems [...]
I was poking around Tony Sweet’s web site last night, and stumbled onto a blog entry of his called Replicating Film Effect, wherein he describes “messing around with digitally replicating a film sandwich.” He’s got some wonderful examples of the technique — check them out.

SciFi finally gets it together, and gives us what looks like a decent Battlestar episode, and Comcast takes a shit! Frak!
UPDATE: Just before midnight, Comcrap got their act back together enough for us to see the midnight showing. Thanks to Rob, I’ll still be able to get a DVD burn, though. Thanks, Rob!

If knowledge can create problems, it is not through ignorance that we can solve them.
— Isaac Asimov
I generally pride myself of doing a fair amount of research before I make a major purchasing decision. But, it appears that, in the long run, I’ve done a pretty good job of mucking up when it came to deciding [...]
