Writing by Hand …

What does “writing by hand” have to do with photography? A lot really. It’s all about planning, according to this article by Oscar Colorado on the new Canonites photography forum site.

The gist of the article is that, by imposing certain restrictions on yourself, you can become a better photographer. Treat your memory cards like film, for example. Back in the days when I shot weddings on film, I’d typically shoot a “half-brick” (10 rolls) of 36 exposures. That was my “budget” for film. I’d hand my clients between 150 and 200 proofs to select from for their album.

Every shot had to be considered and planned. Guess what: The pictures were probably better than most of the ones I take today! Or, at best, I now get the same number (not percentage!) of “keepers” from a typical wedding shoot, where we’ll shoot as many as 900 frames per camera!

There are some other startling relevations in the article. If you’re a photographer, Canon user or not, read it. It’s worth the time.
