Thanks to the great support desk at ICDSoft, my problem using Windows Live Writer has been resolved. Seems that they’ve seen a wave of exploits against sites that use the method of updating that WLW and WordPress use to exchange site information, so, they simply blocked all access to the files on their servers. I just found this really cool flickr slide show inserter called flickrslidr. All ya gotta do is go to the site, fill in the requested information, click the button, and copy-n-paste the provided code. What could be easier?!?
