I’ve Lived Here How Long?
![]()
Donna and I spent a fairly pleasant (if not hot and sticky) evening … strolling around Wilde Lake. As long as I’ve been around Columbia (more than 35 years!), I don’t think I’ve ever bothered to spend much time there.
What a treat I was missing!
The area is like walking through a wildlife sanctuary — in fact, part of it is a swan sanctuary. We saw many geese, ducks, two types of herons, at least one
killdeer, catbirds, robins, the usual assortment of sparrows and finches. We could happily walk around that lake every night of every day.
With our desire to cut back to a simpler lifestyle (we’re really stressing over how overwhelming some things are becoming), the concept of pitching half of our crap and moving into a condo is really appealing.
Of course, we assumed that moving to a place on this lake (there are several lovely condo and condo-townhouse communities on the lake) would be outrageously expensive. As it turns out that if we were in a position to move, the pricing is right in our ballpark! A 3 bedroom, 2 bath condo in The Cove (circled in the aerial view), with a view overlooking the lake is dirt-cheap! I think I’ll have one of those big roll-off dumpsters delivered … or at least a really, really big trash can.
More pictures from our wander can be found in this set on flickr.

ah, the stories from the other side of town
I’ve spent many many hours walking or bicycling around WL, but now that I’m thinking about it not really much around Elkhorn… so perhaps it’s just a locality thing; I could walk to WL from my backyard easily on Columbia’s wonderful system of paths. It was even “on my way” to the Mall, with some creative path-taking choices.
sounds good to me………….
dirt cheap?
Tea: Relatively speaking….
