The Brits Get It, As Usual

dcmag Didja ever notice how some people just manage to do things better than others? Take magazines, for instance…

I’ve really gotten tired of most of the US photography magazines. Either they bow to the whims of their advertisers, or the magazine is in reality no more than a huge ad! It’s nearly impossible to read an unbiased review of gear in a US photo mag. And, to top it off, the editorial content often just isn’t as good, either — overly edited, watered down or otherwise abbreviated articles to allow for, you guessed it, more ads!

Enter the Brits, specifically the Brits at Future Publishing. I’ve long been a fan of their magazines (Computer Music is probably my favorite keyboard-related mag), and we’ve recently been picking up one of their photo magazines, Digital Camera World. Each month is full of truly useful information, honest reviews and understandable tutorials. If you haven’t had a chance to check out this mag, or have balked at the $15 news stand price, go ahead and give it a go. You’ll not likely be disappointed.

I’ve also come to really like JPG magazine. The gear reviews (”My Precious” they call it.), such as they are, are perhaps more on the passionate side than the technical side, but I’ve come to like the immediacy of the net for the tech-specs on most gear.

And besides, you’ve got a much higher chance of getting your work published in JPG than any of the other trade rags.
