Hazy Day

I’ve been spoiled, again, for vacations. There’s just no better way to go on a vacation than staying at a B&B. I don’t think I could ever do a “hotel-based” trip again. The place we’re staying has three cats that pretty much rule the roost, especially Warwick, who’s a big, fuzzy, short-haired cat that’s a good bit Siamese. Just like Darjha, he lives to have his belly rubbed, and always wants to get places he’s not allowed. And, he’s quick for his size. He got past me and into our room last night! Got about three feet inside the door, stopped, and looked around as if to say, “Okay, now what?”

The day started off in a most excellent fashion, with an awesome breakfast of little lemon curd thingies and some sort of vegetable bread. From there, it was baked peaches in a honey glaze with some creme goodness thrown in, and then on to the “main course” of eggs benedict. Of course, another attraction of a B&B is meeting the other guests at breakfast. Today, it was a nice couple from the Dallas area, a young lady from France, here on a job interview, and a couple of nice young men from New Jersey. They were heading on, though. Interestingly, the couple of nice young men were to be replaced by a couple of nice young women…

It was pretty hot and hazy up here in “Ba Haba,” but that didn’t stop us from having fun and taking pictures. Our time was split between Acadia National Park, mostly at the top of Cadillac Mountain, eating food, and poking around into little towns and harbors.

MAINE 2007-08-26 0112-WEB There are a lot of folks running around up here on motorcycles, and it seems that the official bike on the island is Harley Davidson. We talked to a few from New Hampshire, at least one of which regularly rides to Baltimore, and a colorful local rider as well.

We also saw a couple who was probably in their late fifties or early sixties cruising around on a pair of 50cc rental scooters who had made it up to the top of Cadillac Mountain. We’re going to try to find the local rental place on Monday or Tuesday, and see how much it costs to rent a couple for a day or two. That should be a blast!

Anyway, there are, and will be, more pictures on our flickr streams. Mine are here, and Donna’s are here.

I’m so glad you’re having fun! Love the flower photos: it’s true that Mainer’s love their flowers because the summer IS short.

Great blog, please help us conserve many more great places:
National parks and nature reserves are beautiful places that need to be preserved worldwide.

The most limiting factor in conservation world wide is the shortage of rangers: estimated at over 100,000 in developing countries. Currently no government or conservation organization in the world addresses this problem. That is why the Adopt A Ranger Foundation has been created: http://www.adopt-a-ranger.org

Help us spread the cause by visiting the Adopt A Ranger website and leaving a message on your park visits at: http://www.birdlist.org/phpbb and posting some of your picture of national parks at: http://www.nature-worldwide.info/phpbb
