Cadillac Mountain Sunrise
This is why we got up a 4 o’clock this morning.
Along with a couple of hundred other folks, we trekked to the top of Cadillac Mountain to be the first folks in the U.S. to see the sun rise this morning. What surprised us was how quickly the crowd dispersed. The sun popped up over the horizon, and the parking lot cleared right out.
By the time the sun looked like this, there were maybe a dozen or so people hanging around. Most had headed down to, at least, the parking lot where they were talking amongst themselves quite loudly. We had hoped that we would have a chance to see some of the park’s hawk population, but, we think that the noise level scared them off.
… mmpfh … zzz … zzz … snort …
Ah, seem to have nodded off a bit. That’s what getting up a 4AM does for me! Mmmm… ’nuff of that!
Ah, so, anyway, the folks who ran off as soon as the sun popped over the horizon missed seeing all the neat tricks of light and shadow being played out in the rocks.
More pics of the sunrise, and the rocks and also some taken at the “wild gardens” will be up on flickr once I finish waking up — whenever that may be.

jeeze, probably even the hawks don’t get up that early. I mean maybe they’re UP, but, you know, just hanging around the nest, drinkin’ a cup of coffee, fluffing up the old feathers before heading out for a hard day of hunting…..
There’s no reason to get up if your food isn’t up yet. When do the mice drink their coffee?
