SciFi’s Battlestar Galactica returns November 24 at 9PM … So say we all!
Some (like me) will remember Edward James Olmos in another life, as Lt. Martin Castillo on Miami Vice. In that role, he was the calm, cool, collected and calculating officer in charge of Miami’s vice squad, which included Don Johnson’s “Sonny” Crockett and [...]
For those of you who have been wondering … the collection of rune symbols on my belt says absolutely nothing. If I use alphabetic translations, no words emerge. If I use symbolic translations, it’s utter gibberish. I guess it just looked good to the artist who made the belt.
That said, I found a really neat [...]
This is a shout-out to fellow B&B guests Frank & Louise from Dallas!
If you’re out there reading this, please leave us a comment…We’d love to hear about your weekend at the Windjammer Fest, and see some of Frank’s pictures!

Today’s Photo Friday theme is “Beach.”
I haven’t posted a photo meme picture in quite some time. There hasn’t been time or inclination or something. However, today’s theme just sorta fit. We’re headed out to the beach this weekend, and I happen to have a couple of pictures from our last visit handy. So, here they [...]
In real life, I assure you, there is no such thing as algebra.

This came across me e-mail some time back, and I’ve finally had time to read it. It’s pretty darned good, so, I’m copying it onto the site. If you want more, go get the book.

Had Enough?
Am I the only guy in this country who’s fed up with what’s happening? [...]
I thought not.
One thing that does not instill confidence when traveling on airplanes — a pilot who comes on board whistling the chorus from Ring of Fire.
At least I got the a seat in the emergency exit row…
I spent the weekend in Ft. Myers, Florida, doing some consulting work for a new club-jazz band down [...]
Got some lab results today. Slightly elevated bad cholesterol, slightly elevated blood pressure, low iron, and instructions from the doctor to go on: 1. A DIET! (who does he think he is, huh??? i’m barely overweight and have lost 7-8lbs in the past six weeks–without even trying, that’s the good part) 2. A LOW-SALT DIET 3. [...]
Those who have been keeping up will remember that I mentioned yesterday that I thought that a look at the Kymco Xciting 500 maxi-scooter might be in order. Today, I trundled out to MotoStrada in Timonium to have a look, and to park my butt on the machine.
The Xciting 500 seems to have the utility [...]
more social commentary: with 15 quakes & almost 8000 dead in Indonesia over the past not-quite-three years, how is it that Britney’s recent performance rates ANY attention at ALL???
p.s. no, i DIDN’t watch it, but i did watch in disbelief as a local a.m. ’news’caster spent three minutes decrying Spears’ reported lack of enthusiasm — as [...]
Well, this will seem just wonderful. I just received the ultimate gift from Kiah. She regurgitated for me!
You say, “ugh!”
I can hear you. Don’t deny it.
But, if your pet bird regurgitates for you, it’s the ultimate sign of affection. It means that they bird really does love you. So cool!

Why does all the really cool stuff have to happen when I have to work? Ah, well. If you happen to be “downyaishun” this weekend (actually, starting tomorrow!), you may want to check out DelMarVa Bike Week. Looks like a fun entertainment line up, if nothing else.

I think this guy’s right (at least until the part about the reader caring about celebrities, because I don’t give a rat’s behind about celebs).
Anyway, Read this article, and comment on why you think our media is so messed up, our priorities are wrong, whatever you think is the root of the problem.

Our friend Bob Sima set me a link to a really great sounding duo from Hagerstown, Jon & Carrie. Check them out, if you get a chance. It looks like they’ll be playing in Frederick this weekend — too bad I’ll be out of town on business.

I’ve been a little remiss in reading some of my friends’ blogs. Steven, it seems, is jonesing for a bike again. Steve’s the fellow who’s little Suzuki 250 introduced me to actually riding on a motorcycle – at least as a passenger — back in the very early 80’s.

After an hour-and-a-half at the MVA (we have MVA, the rest of you have DMV — go figure) yesterday, I now hold a new drivers’ license with a motorcycle endorsement added to the class. The little “M” is an exciting thing. Now comes the part about buying (and paying for) a bike.
We all know that [...]
Lest you think that all I’ve been doing is playing with motorcycles over the past few days …
This past Friday night, Deanna Bogart played for Chapelgate Presbyterian’s 2nd Annual Night of Jazz event. I took a bunch of photographs for the church. Click on the picture above to see a slide show of Deanna’s [...]
Okay, I know that you all are simply dying to know how I faired on today’s motor cycle riders’ test.
Well, my ride was not exactly perfect. But, it was perfect enough. I got caught up on exactly the things I thought I would — primarily “the box,” where you have to make two consecutive crossing U-turns. [...]
Five-and-one-half-hours on a too-small motorcycle is a very long time.
As some may know, I’m working on getting my motorcycle license, so that I can ride something (anything) larger than a 50cc motor scooter. So, I’ve been taking the Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider Course. In our area, that’s a two-day course that gets kinda [...]
Now that Donna’s uploaded a bunch of images from our trip to her flickr stream, I thought it would be neat to do a “Maine Vacations” slide show or two for you. I’m working on figuring out how to make them loop, but haven’t gotten there yet… Anyway, here are the slide shows:

While we were away, dpreview.com got a preliminary review posted for the new Canon 40D. Included are some tasty sample pictures taken with a “beta” version of the camera. One word: Wow!

Bah! We’re back. Bah!
The return trip was largely uneventful. We did upgrade our seats to “business” class at a great price. Business class on Airtran’s 717s is like flying first class on a DC-9/MD-80/MD-90/Super80. So, that was nice — and the highlight of our return trip.
The cats survived, and seem to be pretty much normal [...]
Our vacation is rapidly drawing to a close, and we spent part of our last full day sailing. We went out on a short “cruise” aboard Surprise, a Friendship Sloop similar to the one pictured, which sails out of Southwest Harbor.
The wind was blowing 15 or so when we left dock with a single foresail [...]
It was a long day yesterday, and we were too tired when we got back to even download pictures from our cameras! So, yesterday’s update is being posted this morning.
We returned to the Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington Railroad Museum (see our visit from last year) to ride the train and meet up with some friends [...]
[ August 26, 2007 to September 2, 2007. ] Off we go to Maine again, this time to spend a solid week at Acadia National Park. We can hardly wait!
