Canon Intros 50D
Canon have just introduced the upgrade to the 40D, which was released last year. The new camera boasts a new 15.1MP CMOS sensor, DIGIC IV processor and a new, 3″ 920,000 pixel rear LCD display.
Believe it or not, these are not compelling reasons for most people who own 40Ds to upgrade — at least not me. Sure, the better LCD would be a welcome upgrade. I’ve seen the similar LCD on the Nikon D300, and it’s stunning. 15.1MP is also quite tempting, but, I can make beautiful prints from my 10.1MP files.
So, what would be enough to make me upgrade? As you may remember, I’ve been having some fine-focus issues with certain lenses on the 40D. You can read about my frustrations here, here and here. And, my initial grumbling can be found here. Well, I feel as if Canon engineers have been reading my various postings, and designed a new feature just for me, and built it into the 50D — the ability to adjust the camera for focus issues, and store that information for up to 20 lenses. Very cool.
Of course, I won’t be upgrading right away. I have to do a few things to 1) pay off some other gear and (2) raise money for the camera first… And that will probably take until at least the spring.
You can read more about the new Canon 50D on the Canon web site, and get an early hands-on report at DPReview.com.

You are Canon’s dream customer. You’ll buy it before the end of the year, guaranteed.
I seriously doubt that I’ll have the money before the end of the year. A look at the finances says no sooner than spring. And besides, I want to see what Canon have up their sleeves for a 5D upgrade before I do anything.
