Canon’s New 5DmkII as a Video Camera?
One of the features of Canon’s new 5DmkII is the ability to record high definition video. I questioned how truly useful such a feature would be. Videographer Vincent Laforet had the opportunity to throw something together. Obviously, the video has been resized to make viewing on the web realistic, but, the quality looks amazing!
From Vincent’s web site:
Obviously, there are aspects of videography that the camera wouldn’t be much use for — for instance, there are no provisions for professional-level audio recording. But then, it’s a still camera with a vidcam function … Or, is it?
[Update: In addition to the built-in, mono microphone, the camera does provide for a stereo microphone to be connected via a 1/8th-inch mini-jack. I'd guess that many of the commercially available adapters for prosumer-level camcorders, such as those made by Beachtek would allow the use of high-grade mics. Sound is recorded in 16bit, 44.1KHz PCM format -- CD/DVD-quality. The hi-def video is impressive, too -- 1080P30.]
