Okay, I know. Really crappy, badly backlit picture, I know. But the only camera I had within quick, easy reach was my iPhone.
The point is, if Kiah the bird, and Darjha the cat can both happily relax on Donna at the same time, why can’t the supposedly "enlightened" and "intelligent" humans get along?
Moments after [...]
I was reminded that we also haven’t written about the cats lately, so, here goes:
My initial comment was that “I haven’t killed them yet,” which is true.
Shadow continues to make great strides towards becoming a “normal” cat. Normal is in quotes for a reason — what exactly is a normal cat, anyway? He no [...]
Kiah – The bird. Remember her? Shortly after we got her, I took her down to the avian vet for a check-out. It seemed to the vet that she was generally healthy, but, a bit under-weight. She weighed about 76 grams that day, and a bird her age should weigh at least 85 grams. Well, [...]
So, I’m sitting here in my office, working on the computer. Darjha is passed out on the floor next to me, and Kiah’s sound asleep on the perch.

It’s been a helluva week. I really don’t remember being this stressed in a while. I don’t even remember some days!
I do know that our little government PEG channel, Howard County GTV, went on the air on Verizon FiOS in both Howard and Anne Arundel Counties today at 12:44PM. Our set up is not quite [...]
I’m not sure what happened, but, literally over night, Shadow has gone from being an almost reasonable cat to the Cat From Hell. So far today, he’s actually attacked me twice. Drawn blood, even (and that, I really, really don’t like).
Here’s the story.
This morning, as I was scurrying around getting ready to go to work, [...]
Smokey’s acting like his old perky self and we haven’t seen a seizure since last Friday. Some seizures can be caused by food allergies, and Mr. Smokey was getting bites of ham lunchmeat all last week as lunches were being made in the morning. (I’ve never seen a cat so absolutely nuts for [...]
took the big guy back to the vet this morning. he had his ultrasound & aspiration on Monday, which showed the extent of the tumor. The cytology was inconclusive, but that means it’s not likely lymphoma, which shows up in a very clear way. Next option would have been to see the kitty oncologist/surgeon, for [...]

Addictive and fun!

Smokey (you remember, the balding cat?) doesn’t have FIP. That’s the good news. That bad news is we don’t yet know what he does have. The skin biopsies should be back by the end of this week. In the meantime, his personality has returned to very close to normal. I guess the 2x/day dropper of [...]
In case anyone’s been wondering what the current scoop is on the amazing stupendous balding cat:
He went to the vet yesterday for a follow-up and went back in today for skin biopsies. While there, the vet checked the elevated liver enzyme. It’s no longer in the mid-400s but at 260 it’s still twice [...]
i think the title is self-explanatory.

Here’s our big guy, in his favorite drinking posture — lying down, of course:
(remind you of any college students?)

After much question and uncertainty, I have finally discovered exactly what [kind of cat] Darjha is: Balinese (sometimes referred to as “Silky-haired Siamese”! The folks at the animal shelter had him labeled as a “Sealpoint Himalayan,” but the face and body shapes were all wrong. We are very excited to finally know what we’re dealing [...]
Darja’s Feline Leukemia test came back negative!
We’re still going to have to monitor the situation because of the other (Elisa) positive tests. We’re also going to immunize Smokey and Shadow, just to be on the safe side.
But we feel a lot better.

With the return of kitties to the household comes the return of PRBs, or, Pussy Repair Bills. All three went to the vet’s last night.
Darja has again tested positive for feline leukemia using the Elisa test. We’re running another, more extensive test now, and should have the results back by Friday. He’s also rather under-weight. [...]
Darjeeling Cat

We got the cats home. They’re busy checking the place out. It’s always interesting to watch cats get used to a new home. Especially when they’re older. Their personalities really come out.
For instance, Smokey, the big, bad boy, moved right in. Checked the place out and took [...]
It’s official. Tomorrow afternoon, at 3:30PM, I go to pick up the kitties — all three. Meeee-Yow!
As mentioned Saturday, we’re adopting. We’ve decided that instead of taking Shadow to the vet immediately, we’ll see what happens with the medication he’s currently on does once he gets home. According to the caregivers at the shelter, his [...]
Tea writes about the adventures of a co-worker’s black cat.
What a funny coincidence. Friday, the 13th, was the day that Donna and I went out to the Ho. Co. Animal Control to see about adopting some cats.
I had been out there on Thursday afternoon doing GTV shoot (and to pre-screen the kitties). I learned that [...]
