For those wondering what the heck has had Geren all tied up for the past several weeks … I’ve been busy moving GTV (Howard County’s cable TV station on Comcast 99/Verizon 44) to co-exist with HCC-TV (Howard Community College’s educational cable TV facility on Comcast 96/Verizon 41), and working to build the new, state-of-the-art facility [...]
Hello again, everyone. I thought it might be good to update you all on how this all worked out — for those who care…
Yesterday was the last day for Howard County GTV as a government operation. We all turned in our keys, locked the doors, and walked away, off to the new phases of [...]
Today was the day … the last day for GTV. The lights at the station were turned out for the last time, and we all turned in our keys and walked away.
Tomorrow, I start a new position at Howard Community College, doing much the same as I was at GTV, with the added benefit [...]
For those interested, the new PC arrived yesterday — a week earlier than expected, and a day prior to Dell’s estimated shipping date. I’ll have to admit that was fairly impressive. Last night, we went out and picked up a couple of external 500GB drives.
So far, the machine itself ain’t too shabby, either. I’ve managed [...]
Seems I’ve made the front page of the Baltimore Examiner web site today with this article. If you’re looking at the print edition, it’s on page 5. Isn’t that special?

By now, I sure that many of you have heard or read that Howard County will be discontinuing their GTV cable television operation, effective June 30 of this year.
The staff at the station found out last Thursday in a meeting that was called by the county Director of Communications. We sorta knew something was [...]
I’ve been busy … real busy. We just closed a production of “A Christmas Carol” at Chapelgate. As with any show, it was not without it’s difficulties. We opened Friday night with one show, did two shows on Saturday, and closed with one show Sunday evening. In the end, everything came off really, really [...]
I’ve just returned from a week in Estero, Florida, where I’ve installed a new project studio for Holy Mountain Music. The studio features a ProTools LE recording system, full-featured monitoring, a drum booth and areas for keyboard, guitar, bass, horn and vocal recordings. An adjacent space can be configured for larger ensemble recording.
Work commenced last Monday in 1/3 [...]
In my last entry, I snuck in a comment about another job. That’s right, I just can’t live without something else eating up large chunks of time.
Starting two Monday’s ago, I became the Audio/Visual Team Leader for my church, filling a spot that was vacated rather suddenly. The job has me overseeing all of the [...]
I thought not.
One thing that does not instill confidence when traveling on airplanes — a pilot who comes on board whistling the chorus from Ring of Fire.
At least I got the a seat in the emergency exit row…
I spent the weekend in Ft. Myers, Florida, doing some consulting work for a new club-jazz band down [...]
I was going through my calendar, and noticed that things are really getting busy at AcoustiSoundâ„¢ over the next couple of months, and many of the things that are going on are public events! Visit the AcoustiSoundâ„¢ site, and click on the calendar tab to find out more about some of these events.

It’s been a few days since I’ve had anything to say. Well, that’s not really true. I’ve just been too busy to write anything since last week sometime. The only reason I have the time right now is that a client had to cancel an appointment today. So, just what’s been up?
Last Wednesday night, I [...]
I called a company today to get some quotes on a case for my mixer and a couple of racks for amps and effects. I had seen their products on eBay, and subsequently found their non-eBay web site.
Upon describing what I was looking for, the woman at the other end of the line asked, “Why [...]
Back in March, I reported on a new web site, called Blurb, that would allow you to publish your own book. At that point, there was really nothing there but a pipe dream. It seems that now the service is, indeed, in operation, if only in beta. Most interesting!

Yesterday, I registered the domain orchard-studios.com for our Orchard Studios photographic adventure. There’s nothing on the site yet, but that will [have to] change in the next week, along with getting much done for our first upcoming show of the holiday season. Looks like the next couple of weeks are gonna be real busy!
Post Revisions:There [...]
I’ll be spending a good portion of the day at the Professional Products video product showcase today, along with the GTV Station Manager. We’ll be there to concentrate on seeing station automation and media network management equipment, as well as EAS/NWS alerter systems.
Of course, I’ll have other motives … such as reestablishing old connections and [...]
Geren will be covering the Howard County Planning Charrette for GTV70.

Tonight was ablaze with television action for yours truly. At least once a month, I single-handedly produce a 3-camera live television cablecast of an official Howard County Council meeting of some sort. Usually, it’s legislative sessions. Now, these are not the most exciting moments of television in the world. However, they’re enough to make one [...]
I thought you might be interested in this Working Families e-Activist Network petition to protect workers wages in the Gulf Coast region.
In his first act after the storm, Bush issued an executive order taking wage protections away from construction workers who will rebuild the Gulf Coast.
The Bush administration also is using the disaster to [...]
Geren will be recording and engineering a demo CD for The Mango Project.

Geren will direct live coverage of the Howard County Council meeting on Howard County GTV (Cable channel 70, in Howard County).
UPDATED
Well, the live shot went off, though not without a couple of hitches. I’ll have to fix them in post tomorrow morning. A couple of the titles got mixed up, and went over air at [...]
For some of you, this will be a rebroadcast of an earlier e-mail…
Hey, everyone. I just wanted to let you all know that Donna has accepted
a new job, and will be leaving the crazy train house in two weeks. The
best part is that she had several options to choose from.
Effective August 10, Donna will be [...]
I had a happy phone call today. For several years, I’ve been involved in the Howard County Cable Advisory Committee as meeting recordist, and confidant to the Cable Administrator. However, last December, she resigned, and there hasn’t been a new Administrator until just yesterday. This morning, the new Administrator called to ask if I would [...]
